We welcome new members at anytime, but January marks a very special opportunity to join us.

We start rehearsing for Dvorak's Stabat Mater, a work we have not performed for over 20 years, on Monday 6 January.

This is a profoundly moving piece based on a 13th century poem attributed to Jacopone da Todi. It reflects on what Mary, the mother of Jesus, might have felt watching her son die on the cross.  Dvorák’s work was composed after a period of unimaginable personal tragedy when, in the space of two years, three of his children died.  Dvorák’s musical influences include Wagner, Brahms and Italian Opera and they are evident in this work which depicts every mood imaginable from grief through to hope and peace.

This is the last opportunity to sing under John Dunford at Wetherby. Following 32 years with us, John retires after our joint concert in Ripon Cathedral in June. It will also be an interesting term as we recruit John's successor.

There is a lot of information about us on our website, but do get intouch with our Membership Secretary, Christopher Gibbs at memsec@wetherbychoral.org.uk if you have any questions.

We look forward to seeing you on Monday 6 January 7.15pm at St James' Wetherby LS22 6LP, or any of the following Mondays in January.

The performance is on Saturday 23 March.
